Simple Summer Time Dress

It's getting hot, hot, hot outside! With warm weather come sun dresses. I just love little girls in pretty dresses. Don't you?

After weeding through Sophia's closet, she only has two other dresses for summer that fit. So not enough. Everything in her world is about dresses, tights, and leggings right now.  Let's hope she gets over tights fast with how hot it is now.

I've had this fabric by Amy Butler for over a year now. I feel in love with it the first time I saw it.  Problem is, it just does not go with anything but white. Hence why it has not been used yet. Lucky for Sophia it made a gorgeous dress!

I did three rows of sheering at the top and one row about 4 inches lower.  This created the empire waist. In the back I made one large box pleat. This gives the dress more detail and flow. The straps are simple ties, made from the same fabric.

Always being silly.

Dress for Amelia

Do you remember this post with the dresses I made for the Sophia's party? Well Sophia's mom and my friend Sarah, LOVED the dress so much that she had me make a matching pint-sized one for baby Amelia. Their family will be having  photo's taken soon and I can wait to see and post the girls in their matching dresses.

Birthday Dresses for the Sophia's

We have a Birthday party this Friday for my Sophia's friends Sophia and Sophia. Yes, you read that correct they all three are named Sophia.

I knew right away I wanted to make the girls dresses as the gift. What little girl does not love a new dress? Besides a while back I had bought a few new patterns and bookmarked some tutorials on the web, so this would be the perfect opportunity to try them out.

I scored at Joann's on the fabric. I spotted the lavender floral in the clearance section which also happened to be an extra 50% off!!!!!  It is "Ribbon Dance" Stonehill Collection by Donna Wilder. The green is called "Topsy Turvy" from the same collection.

The first dress I used New Look 6960 Size 3. Pretty easy pattern for the most part except the collar. I feel the directions were not very clear and I had to wing it during this step. The pattern called for a zipper which I was excited as it was my first one! I must say I love the way it turned out and my Sophia keeps asking for one of her own.

The second dress is a Pillowcase dress. I was inspired by this dress that Anneliese created for her daughters. It is one of the most simple dresses to make and I learned how to sew a french seam. I absolutely love the big bow!

I hope you girls love your dresses!

The Frustrating Play Dress

This one was a rough one. I did learn from it but is was so frustrating that there will be no tutorial! LOL The dress has 2 ruffled skirt panels and a fitted bodice top. I also made a matching  rose bow for her hair. All in all it turned out alright. Sophia wore it today for her last day of Vacation Bible School :(  I do have to say that she did get a lot of compliments on how cute she looked. Don't you love the shock in people's face when they ask where you got it and you tell them you made it! That was enough gratification for me to make all the frustration worth while.

She was being silly in most of the pictures.

What a cheese ball!

Flop To Cute Frock

We all have had them (sigh), projects that flop. This one sadly is one of mine.

It was inspired by one of my favorite tops from Ann Taylor.
(love the metallic trim)

I had found some fabulous brown with gold pinstripe fabric for only $5 a yard and (light bulb) thought this will be perfect to make that top! Made it and did not like it. I could not bare to waist the fabric and time that I had put into it. I took one look at Sophia and thought sundress.

Here is the finished product. What do you think?

She takes after her mother :)
