Three Simple and Free Place Card Ideas for Thanksgiving

I rounded up some items from around the house and outside to come up with three simple and free place card holders for the up and coming holidays.

The first is one of my favorites. They can be used for wine tastings, dinner parties or Thanksgiving dinner. Easy as saving a few corks for the bottles.

Cute little pine cones. Give a nice earthy feel to the table.

Nothing says fall like apples! I gathered a few colorful leaves and wrote the names on them in
gold pen.

Spring has sprung!

Hope all you momma's out there had a wonderful Mother's Day. I did. I enjoyed great food at Claim Jumpers and relaxing the day away with my family.

Now that it's finally getting warm here in the Chicagoland it's time to plant a garden. I'm doing a simple container garden this year.  Green peppers, romaine lettuce, short and sweet carrots and cucumbers. Yum! I think I may do one or two tomato plants too. I'm not a huge tomato fan but, I want to try my hand at making some fresh salsa this year.

Sophia was a great helper. She sprinkled the seeds in a nice row and helped me cover them up with soil. I love passing on the green thumb to her.  She is so proud. Can't wait to see her reaction when the seeds sprout!

Here is our mixed greens that we started by seed 2 months ago. The kids already enjoy picking and eating the lettuce.

Planting was a fun way to breakup the Monday blues.

Recycled Sweater Mittens

I HATE being cold as I have a hard time warming back up. I'm one of those who would rather be hot than cold any day!

The weather here is starting to get cold and winter is right around the corner. Boo....at least I can cheer myself up with new mittens! I made these from an old sweater that I already recycled into a pillow. I kept the sleeve for later projects. Mittens!

It was really simple and fast to do. Here's my little tutorial.

Start off by tracing your hand and about two inches of you wrist. Round the upper edges to be even and match. Then cut it out.

Grab your sleeve.

With sleeve turned inside out lay your template down and pin in place.

Notice what I've done with the thumb. I cut a deeper slit down and folded the thumb in just a little.

Here is the thumb folded and pinned so you can see what I meant. Note: you will cut down into the deeper slit.

Pin sides and stitch closed.

Tada!!

Finished pair.
